FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What products do you offer?
We offer a stunning range of internal glass products. Specialising in internal doors made from Steel, we also offer Mirrors, Shower Screens and Enclosures and Aluminium Doors.
What areas do you cover?
We cover the majority of England and Wales for both Supply Only and Template & Install.
Do you offer fire-rated doors?
Yes, we offer FD30 steel fire rated doors.
Can customers provide their own handles?
Yes, customers are most welcome to provide their own handles. Although, the project manager must check with the production that the chosen handle can be used with the design of the doors.
Can fire-rated doors have different types of glass?
Although you can select different types of glass in nearly any profile we offer, the fire-rated doors must have clear glass because only the clear glass has passed the Global assessment, which we provide certification.
Do I need an appointment to visit the showroom?
You are welcome to visit the showroom within our opening times, but we do recommend calling before visiting if you’d like to speak to one of our team.
Do you measure and install?
Yes, we offer a full measure and install service.
Are your doors steel?
Our fully framed doors are made from steel. We offer a couple of our products in Aluminium.
Are your products made to measure?
Yes all of our products are made to your measurements.
What are your lead times?
Steel doors: 8–10 weeks. Fire-rated steel doors: 10–14 weeks. Aluminium doors: 6–8 weeks. Lead times run from order confirmation and final measurements.
How much do internal steel doors cost?
Our single steel doors start from £1,800 and single aluminium doors from £1,200. Every door is made to measure, so the final price depends on the size, glass, bar design and handles. Send us rough sizes and a photo of the opening and we will send a free quote.
What is the difference between steel and aluminium doors?
Steel gives the slimmest frame, the classic black steel look and the option of an FD30 fire rating. Aluminium is lighter, has soft-close hinges, costs less and arrives sooner. See our steel or aluminium guide for a side-by-side comparison.
What sizes can you make?
All of our doors are made to measure. Steel pivot doors can be up to 1350mm x 2000mm, and larger openings are filled with doors and fixed panels. Fully framed aluminium leaves go up to 930mm x 2200mm, and double aluminium sets up to 1927mm x 2231mm.
Do I need planning permission for internal steel doors?
No. Internal doors do not need planning permission or building regulations approval, unless the property is listed, where internal alterations need Listed Building Consent. The exception is fire doors: where the regulations call for one, our FD30 steel doors are certified to BS 476 Part 22.
Do steel doors rust or need much maintenance?
No. Our frames are finished in your chosen colour and do not warp, crack or need refinishing. A wipe with a damp cloth is all the frame and glass need.
Do steel doors reduce noise?
Yes. A steel and glass door cuts noise between rooms compared with an open doorway, and the solid frame helps. Hinged doors close more tightly than sliding doors, so choose hinged where sound matters most.
What are black steel doors?
nBlack steel doors are internal doors made from slim steel frames with glass panels, usually finished in black for an industrial look. Ours are made to measure in our Crewe workshop, in any RAL colour, with a choice of glass and bar designs.
nnSliding or hinged, which should I choose?
nSliding doors suit openings where space in the room is tight, for example where furniture sits close to the doorway. Hinged doors can be opened fully to create a larger opening. We will advise on the best option once we have seen the space.
nnCan steel doors be fitted in a period or listed house?
nYes. We measure the opening and, where the walls or ceiling are out of true, any gaps are sealed in during fitting so the door sits square. Listed properties need Listed Building Consent for internal alterations, so check with your council first.
nnWho fits the doors, and how long does installation take?
nOur own team fits every door. Depending on the opening and what we are fixing into, installation takes between three hours and a full day.
nnCan I have a lock on an internal steel door?
nYes. Locks are available on both our lever handle and pull handle doors.
nnCan you match a colour I already have?
nYes. We can match an existing colour, and we also offer metallic finishes such as bronze.
nnAre you open at the weekend?
Saturday visits are by appointment. Please call or email to arrange a time.
Do you offer trade discounts?
