Three FD30 steel fire door systems
All of our fire doors are made from steel, certified to BS 476 Part 22 for a minimum of 30 minutes of fire integrity, and supplied with a certificate of conformity for building control. Intumescent seals in the frame expand in heat to close the gap, and the glass is certified fire-rated glass. You choose the system by the frame you want to see: a heavier traditional section, a slim one, or the slimmest we make.
| System | Opening frame | Door frame | Sight line, wall to glass | Depth | Glazing bars | Handle |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 40mm, 5mm gap | 65mm plus 20mm glazing bead | 130mm | 50mm | To your design | To your choice |
| P40 slim | 40mm | 12mm overlap | 52mm | 43mm | Two horizontal bars as standard | Lever handle with full backbox |
| W40 ultra slim | 39mm | 16mm overlap | 55mm | 55mm | Any bar design | Pull handle |
Standard steel fire door FD30 fire rated
The heaviest, most traditional section: a 40mm opening frame, a 65mm door frame and a 20mm glazing bead, 50mm deep, with the hinge on the face. Bars to your design and your choice of handle.
P40 slim steel fire door FD30 fire rated
A slimmer section where the door leaf sits in front of a 40mm tube frame and overlaps it by 12mm, 43mm deep. Its certification fixes the design: two horizontal bars, a lever handle and a full backbox lock case.
W40 ultra slim steel fire door FD30 fire rated
The slimmest fire door we make. The leaf nests into a channel-section frame on a front hinge, 42mm deep in a 55mm frame, showing 39mm of frame and 16mm of door. Any bar layout, with a pull handle.
Do you need a fire door?
Under Approved Document B of the Building Regulations, fire doors are required in houses with three or more storeys on doors opening onto the stair, in most loft conversions, between an integral garage and the house, and in many HMOs, flats and commercial buildings. If you are unsure, your building control officer will confirm. Our fire rated doors page explains FD30 and the regulations in more detail.
