Fire-Rated Steel & Glass Screens — British Airways Heathrow Office Fit-Out

This Heathrow site brief required four internal fire-rated steel screens to define new meeting rooms and breakout space within a refurbished British Airways office floor. The fit-out needed full FD30 fire-rated certification across both framework and glass, while maintaining open sightlines and daylight flow through the floor — a balance that’s typically hard to achieve with traditional plasterboard partitions.

Each screen uses a slim black steel framework, made-to-measure to suit the existing partition openings to the millimetre. The matt black powder-coat finish ties into BA’s wider interior design language and is hard-wearing enough for high-traffic corporate environments, where partitions take regular knocks from chairs, trolleys and IT install crews moving through during fit-out.

The glass is fully fire-rated to FD30 — 30 minutes of fire integrity, certified to BS 476 — pairing the steel framework with glazed infill that meets the building regulations for commercial separation between meeting rooms and adjacent breakout spaces. The combination delivers structural fire performance without sacrificing the contemporary, light-filled aesthetic the BA project team wanted across the floor.

Delivery was through our template & install service. Our installers visited the Heathrow site to template each opening to the millimetre, manufactured the screens off-site at our workshop, and returned for fitting outside core working hours so neighbouring BA teams could continue working uninterrupted. The full install was completed across two evening sessions with no disruption to surrounding offices.

The result is four matching, fully-certified FD30 fire-rated steel screens that perform as fire-rated partitions while reading visually as a slim, modern steel-and-glass system. It’s a fit-out solution well-suited to corporate offices, meeting suites, hotel back-of-house spaces and any commercial or hospitality environment where building regulations require rated separation between rooms but the architectural brief asks for daylight, transparency, and a contemporary, premium-feeling finish across the floor plan. We work with project managers, fit-out contractors and interior architects on jobs of every size, from single-screen replacements through to multi-floor commercial roll-outs.
