Bespoke Black Steel Internal Doors with Custom Bar Design — Preston
This Preston home featured a traditional layout with classical proportions, and the homeowner wanted to replace the original internal doors with something that would feel fresher, more contemporary and architecturally striking. The brief was to design and install three bespoke black steel internal doors — single-leaf, slim-framed and finished with a custom glazing pattern designed by the client themselves.
All three doors share the same slim black steel frame, made-to-measure to suit the property’s existing openings to the millimetre. The slim profile keeps the framework visually quiet and lets the glass and pattern take the lead. The finish is a hard-wearing matt black powder-coat — crisp, contemporary and tough enough to take the daily knocks of a busy household.
Each door carries the client’s own bespoke bar design — three vertical rectangles laid across clear toughened glass. The pattern echoes black steel geometry but at a softer, more refined scale, giving each door a modern art-deco character. Clear toughened glass keeps sight-lines open between the rooms and meets the safety standards required for internal glazing in a residential setting, while still letting daylight flow through the property.
Delivery was through our template & install service. We visited the Preston property to template each opening to the millimetre, then manufactured the doors in our workshop and returned for fitting. The full install was completed in two days, with no disruption to the rest of the home. Proofs of the bar pattern were signed off by the client before fabrication, so there were no surprises on installation day.
The result is three matching, made-to-measure steel internal doors with a unique design feature — a clean, contemporary upgrade for a Preston home that adds definition between rooms while keeping light flowing through. This project sat in our £3,000–£4,000 price band for the supply and installation of all three single doors.
