Two ranges, one workshop
We make both internal steel doors and internal aluminium doors, so we have no reason to push you towards one or the other. Both are made to measure, both come with a choice of glass and bar designs, and both are templated and installed by our own team across England and Wales. The differences are in the frame, the price, the lead time and one thing only steel can do: fire rating.

Choose steel if…
- You want the classic black steel look with the slimmest possible frame.
- You need a fire door. Our FD30 steel doors are certified to BS 476 Part 22 and come with a certificate of conformity for building control.
- You want a lever handle with a lock, or a hand-forged hammered or ridged pull handle.
- The door sits in a busy spot, a hallway or a kitchen, where weight and strength matter.
- You want a pivot door that opens both ways, or a bespoke bar arrangement from our 29 standard designs.
Choose aluminium if…
- Budget is the deciding factor. Single aluminium doors start from £1,200 against £1,800 for steel.
- You want soft-close hinges and a door that swings both ways without a lever handle.
- You are filling a wide opening with a double set, up to 1927mm x 2231mm, and want the lighter leaf.
- You need the doors sooner. Aluminium lead time is typically 6–8 weeks.
- You prefer a clean, contemporary frame over the industrial look, or want reflex or fabric glass.
Common questions
Which is cheaper, steel or aluminium?
Aluminium. A single aluminium door starts from £1,200 and a single steel door from £1,800. Both are made to measure, so the final price depends on size, glass, bar design and handles. Send rough sizes and a photo of the opening for a free quote on either.
Which lets in more light?
Both are glass from top to bottom, so the difference is small. Steel has the slimmer frame, so for the same opening you get slightly more glass. Clear glass keeps the most light in either range; frosted and reeded give privacy while still letting light through.
Can I mix steel and aluminium doors in one home?
Yes. A common choice is a steel door for the statement opening, the kitchen or the hallway, with aluminium doors elsewhere. Tell us which rooms the doors are for and we will advise on keeping colours, glass and bar designs consistent across both.
Are both ranges made to measure and installed by you?
Yes. Every steel and aluminium door is made to your opening. We template on site to confirm the sizes, then return to install, across England and Wales. Supply only is also available for both ranges.
